For our innovative projects in multiple technology domains, we are looking for an ambitious Embedded System Engineer with a strong focus on FPGA platforms. In this role, you get the opportunity to take on broad responsibility and take care of the full development cycle by designing, implementing and testing embedded software and hardware for innovative prototype systems by combining cutting-edge research results with state-of-the-art components. You will do this in close collaboration with internal customers and external partners. In this position you will be part of the solutions team which consists of other (embedded) software engineers, electronics engineers and algorithmic developers.

What you will do

We need you as an Embedded System Engineer to be part of our multidisciplinary team to:

  • Focus on Firmware development, design prototype embedded systems for extremely accurate real-time digital signal processing using FPGA's, imec developed hardware and off-the-shelf sensors, microcontrollers and radios.
  • Translate project goals into engineering requirements, define specifications, design, implement, verify and validate embedded (software & hardware) systems. 
  • Perform hardware, software testing and troubleshooting, including board bring-up and adaptation of existing prototype platforms into new specifications. 
  • Contribute to architectures, processes, roadmaps, and platform strategy.  
  • Document your activities to ensure reproducibility of setup and test results; maintain, update the software and FPGA design.
  • Coach and support other software developers in the team.

Who you are

  • MSc degree in Embedded systems and/or Electrical engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience with embedded systems is must.
  • Hands-on experience with programming microcontrollers and use of FPGA in embedded systems is a must.
  • Experience with high-speed protocols, low voltage differential interfacing, or digital logic applications is a big plus.
  • Experience with embedded firmware and hardware implementation.
  • Advanced programming experience with C and C++ is a must.
  • Familiarity with Python, Verilog, VHDL, Zynq and Linux is a plus.
  • Experience with electronic lab equipment, for example, logic analyser, scope, and debuggers. 
  • Hands-on and team player attitude; which means taking initiative, thinking pro-actively, problem-solving attitude; being able to see commonality and broader view across projects are attributes which define yourself.
  • You can work independently as an individual contributor, driving and collaborating with other disciplines in a small team.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken).
